This season, we are manufacturing and selling a new replica M-51 field jacket with patches, which is a reproduction of the one worn by the US Army soldiers who occupied Japan immediately after the end of the Pacific War.

The current unit patch on the left shoulder is the 1st Cavalry Division, and the previous unit patch on the right shoulder is the 8th Army, US Army.

The 8th Army was a newly formed unit in June 1944, and began its occupation of Japan on August 30, 1945. By the end of 1945, a total of 240,000 troops had been stationed throughout Japan, making it the main force of the Japanese Occupation Forces.

Subsequently, as the occupation of Japan stabilized, the army's military strength was reduced, but when the Korean War suddenly broke out on June 25, 1950, they were among the first to leave Japan as the main force of the United Nations forces.

The 1st Cavalry Division is a traditional cavalry division that was newly formed in 1921. During the Pacific War, it was deployed to the New Guinea front and fought fiercely against the Japanese army. It then moved to the Philippines, where it successfully recaptured the country. After the war ended, in September 1945, it began occupying Japan, and was the first U.S. Army unit to reach the capital, Tokyo.

After that, it was involved in the occupation administration of the Kanto region, including Tokyo, for about five years. During the Korean War, it landed in Busan on July 18, 1950, about three weeks after the outbreak, and participated in the war.

The soldier who was the model for this replica M-1951 was a member of the 8th Army, who occupied Japan immediately after the end of the Pacific War, and served in the occupation administration for a while. When he was ordered to return to the U.S. mainland, he requested a transfer to the 1st Cavalry Division in order to remain in Japan.
