The A-2 leather jacket is one of the most iconic flight jackets.

The leather used is bronco hide (hide from wild horses), a high-quality leather of a firm thickness that is made from Italian horsehide and finished with tannin tanning.
Aniline dye, which is often used for high-quality leather, brings out the natural look of the leather's surface and gives it a translucent texture, which is then applied by hand by craftsmen.
Because of the handmade work and the use of natural leather, each piece is unique due to slight scratches, uneven coloring, and differences in wrinkle depth on the surface of the leather. Each piece is different and no two pieces have the same leather surface.

Rough Wear, the A-2 contractor, also had a productive factory background.
This model was the third of five deliveries made by the company under the 1942 contract. Since the U.S. Army Air Corps made it mandatory to use the words "Property Air Force" in the middle of 1942, the jacket features a two-layer label, with two labels sewn on top of each other.
The jacket also has a large collar with a stand, giving it a powerful form that is typical of Roughwear. The leather used for this jacket is made by soaking raw hides from Italy in a vat of tannin extracted from tree bark, slowly tanning it over time with varying concentrations of tannin. After being carefully tanned, the leather is rubbed with seal brown aniline dye by hand by craftsmen.
The slight unevenness in color is proof of the handmade nature of the product, and is a finish that is favored by leather enthusiasts. Leather finished with aniline dyes has a more transparent color than lacquer finishes, so the leather itself tends to show its own unique character through use and aging.
This jacket, with tannins and dyes soaked into it deep within the leather, improves in appearance with each wear.
