As its model name suggests, the M-1951 field jacket is a type of winter/cold climate wear that was standardized by the U.S. Army in 1951.

While inheriting the style of the predecessor M-1943 field jacket as a cotton-lined cold weather garment, it has been improved by using both a zipper and snap buttons for the front opening, improving wind and cold protection. Since it was officially adopted immediately after the outbreak of the Korean War, it was rapidly issued to soldiers fighting in the frigid Korean Peninsula.

Following the Army, it was also adopted by the US Marine Corps, and continued to be widely used by both the Army and Marine Corps until around 1968, when it was completely replaced by the M-1965 field jacket.

This season, we are making and selling a new replica M-1951 field jacket. The pattern was made from the real thing, and the outer and inner fabrics were woven in the same way as the real thing. We also paid special attention to the dyeing, and succeeded in finishing it in almost the same color as the real thing that was manufactured in 1951-52.

The real zipper is a large aluminum zipper, but this type of zipper is no longer produced, so for this replica we replaced it with a brass zipper with a silver nickel finish.
